Rising Suicide Rates

  • Globally, suicide is the 2nd leading cause of death in individuals 15 – 24 years of age.
  • In the US the suicide rate climbed 56% between 2007 and 2017, for people ages 10 to 24 years old

Vulnerable Homeless Populations

  • Homeless populations are among the most unsupported populations within the U.S.

  • Suicide rates among homeless are estimated to be nine times that of the general population

Veterans and Suicide

  • Veterans are at 1.5 times the risk of suicide than non-veterans

  • Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) along with substance abuse are thought to be major contributors to increased rates

Suicide Rates in Colorado

  • The mountain states and Alaska represent some of the highest death rates by suicide in the nation

  • Colorado now has the fifth highest rate of suicide nationally
